Making Contract Gains Even In Tough Economic Times
Tandet Center in Stamford and Connecticut Health of Southport Show It Can Be Done
In this time of economic uncertainty, it is important to know that as we enter negotiations we are still able to hold our own and make gains in our contracts. But we need to stand together to get things done.
Two recent contract victories prove this. At the Tandet Center in Stamford and Connecticut Health of Southport, 1199ers won themselves a real Union pension, with the boss paying 8% of payroll for all employees who regularly work an average of 20 hours per week.
In addition to the pension, we were able to win wage increases of 3% for 2008, which took effect in December and 3.5% increases for 2009 and 2010. And at Connecticut Health of Southport 1199ers won across the board wage increases of $1.80 an hour over the course of the 3 year contract.
Both contracts won improvements in health insurance as well. CT Health of southport will see the cost of family health insurance decrease by 40% over the course of the contract. And while Tandet center saw no increase in the current cost of family or employee +1 insurance, part timers will receive an 89% cut in insurance costs.
