Parents, Advocates, Case Managers Protest Service Cuts for 3,000 Clients of DDS
It was standing room only today at a packed press
conference at the Legislative Office Building as parents, DDS Case
Managers and supportive legislators spoke out against cuts in critical
services for clients of the Department of Developmental Services (DDS).
More than 70 Case Managers and 30+ parents and clients packed the room
to protest the loss of services.

On February 10, 2009, leaders of the State Employees Bargaining Agent Coalition (SEBAC) met with representatives of the Rell Administration.
This was our third meeting in an effort to reach a comprehensive agreement to be brought to the membership for ratification.
As the governor said in her budget proposal, she is asking our assistance to find $300 million in savings in each of the next two years.

responses from 1199 members who gathered at the Legislative Office
Building to hear Governor Rell’s budget proposal on Wednesday, February
4th.

Poll Shows Public has No Appetite for Cuts in Services
A newly released poll shows that broad majorities of Connecticut voters say that
cutting services like health care, education, and road maintenance during a time
of recession will further damage the economy and that job layoffs, whether in
the public sector or the private sector, will do the same.

Report on January 28, 2009 Discussions with Rell Administration
SEBAC Leadership met with representatives of the Rell
Administration on January 28, 2009. This was our second meeting in an effort
to reach a comprehensive agreement to be brought to the membership for
ratification. We continued to stress that while we are willing to be
part of a solution which protects public services and the economy, we
are unwilling to be part of a solution which decimates public services
and makes the economy worse.

On November 24th the Connecticut General Assembly convened a special
session to address shortfalls in the budget. More than 140 1199ers were
there to talk to legislators. Our message was simple: State health services are cost effective and essential to the well-being of our entire population. Taking away vital care and basic support that residents and their families rely on will only make our economy worse.
