Rally And Prayer Service

Governor Rell’s recent proposed budget for nursing home and community care hurts our residents, our clients, our families and our communities.
What the Governor describes as "flat funding" is really a deep and painful cut because the cost of caring for our elderly, our children and our neighbors with developmental disabilities or mental illness keeps rising.
We’re already seeing the fallout from years of the Rell administration’s shameful neglect of care for the most vulnerable residents of our state: hours cuts, layoffs, short staffing and program cuts. Ten nursing homes in receivership, five in bankruptcy and two on the brink of closure. Private provider agencies forced to cut back or close day programs or consider discontinuing services altogetherOur residents face losing their homes, our clients risk the services and supports that make it possible to live and function in the community, and caregivers and our cities and towns are looking at widespread job losses – just when we need more jobs to stabilize our weak economy.
It’s time to take action. It’s time to tell Governor Rell and our legislators that it’s their job to protect health care and build our state’s economy. Challenge them to stand up and fight with us: For our residents, for our clients, for our families, for our communities.
