DESCRIPTION:Genesis HealthCare Corporation is a for-profit nursing home operator that runs more than 200 facilities in 13 different states. Seven of those homes are in Rhode Island\, and the company received over $35 million in reimbursements from the State of RI last year. Citing economic uncertainty\, the company is seeking to impose a contract that would expose workers to up to $11\,000 a year in healthcare costs. \nFor workers who make around $30\,000 per year\, this is simply unaffordable – so nurses and supporters will be picketing outside of the Genesis facility in Pawtucket on Wednesday\, March 14 from 2 to 4pm\, and calling on Genesis to “Be Fair to Those Who Care!”   (The previous day\, we are picketing outside of their facility in Greenville). \nClick here to read more about how 1199 members who work for Genesis in RI are standing up to the company’s corporate greed!

DESCRIPTION:This year the RI General Assembly chose to slash services to the developmentally disabled by $24 million dollars so the very wealthy and large multi-state corporations could keep their tax breaks. The impact has been devastating to consumers and the workforce that serves them.  Community-based agencies throughout the state have already begun layoffs and slashing wages to a group of workers that is already underpaid. \nJoin us at the State House on Thursday\, December 15th at 12pm to call on the General Assembly to restore the funding to programs for the developmentally disabled!  To RSVP\, call the union office at (401) 457-5099.
